Who We Are
Agricultural Society
The Chenango County Agricultural Society is a membership corporation that annually elects a nine-member Board of Directors who serve as volunteers. We are registered as a not-for-profit corporation with a 501(c)(3) status (EIN: 15-0587923). Our organization was incorporated in 1847 and has managed the Chenango County Fair for 174 years at different locations in the City of Norwich and Chenango County. The Fairgrounds as we currently know It was formalized in and now spans thirty-five acres with eighteen permanent buildings. Our property lies at the eastern entrance to the City of Norwich on East Main Street.
As an agricultural society, we hold an annual fair to display and promote livestock, agricultural products, and exhibits of youth and open classes. Awards subject to regulations for each class are awarded on such articles and productions as they promote the agricultural, horticultural, mechanic, and domestic arts of our county. The Agricultural Society is responsible for the regulation of ground use and shows held on the exhibition grounds.
The staffing of our organization encompasses one part-time office secretary and part-time, seasonal maintenance workers. Our members are community professionals In the fields of agriculture, government, and youth development.
Our statement of purpose is to:
*Present the annual Chenango County Fair held in August providing the best public awareness of our major Industry-AGRICULTURE-and a showcase for local livestock, products, and entertainment. We are proud to note that our event is one of the longest-running annual events in Chenango County, as well as in New York State.
*Provide an outstanding facility for the community to utilize throughout the year as well as during the agricultural fair. Several annual events are held on our grounds. In addition. we have an active calendar for functions from the community. (Attached) The Board has an active contractual schedule and exhibition ground rental fur venues wishing to utilize the property subject to Board approval.
*Provide an educational experience for youth programs through our coordination with Chenango County Cornell Cooperative Extension and co-location of 4-H facilities

Become a Chenango County Agricultural Society Member
Memberships are available from any director or at the fair office. Anyone meeting the membership requirement may purchase a membership in lieu of any exhibitor’s ticket.

Restrictions
- Any resident of Chenango county 18 years of age and older may
- Memberships must be purchased before the last day of the fair.
