Our History
Founded in 1847, the Chenango County Agricultural Society is a membership corporation that has managed the Chenango County Fair for 174 years at different locations in the City of Norwich and Chenango County. Today, our fairgrounds span thirty-five acres with eighteen permanent buildings, and our property lies at the eastern entrance to the City of Norwich on East Main Street.
Our Mission
At the Chenango County Agricultural Society, our mission is to provide an educational experience for youth programs through our coordination with Chenango County Cornell Cooperative Extension and co-location of 4-H facilities. We’re also dedicated to presenting the annual Chenango County Fair held in August, providing the best public awareness of our major industry – agriculture – and a showcase for local livestock, products, and entertainment. We’re proud to note that our event is one of the longest-running annual events in Chenango County, as well as in New York State.

The Annual
Chenango County Fair
As an agricultural society, we hold an annual fair to display and promote livestock, agricultural products, and exhibits of youth and open classes. Awards subject to regulations for each class are awarded on such articles and productions as they promote the agricultural, horticultural, mechanic, and domestic arts of our county. The Agricultural Society is responsible for the regulation of ground use and shows held on the exhibition grounds.
The Fairgrounds
Our fairgrounds are more than just an annual event. We provide an outstanding facility for the community to utilize throughout the year. From weddings to company picnics, our facilities are perfect for any occasion. Plus, we have an active calendar of community functions and an exhibition ground rental for venues wishing to utilize the property, subject to Board approval.
